Apparently, My Data Safety Is No Longer In Danger
July 29, 2008 on 3:06 pm | In Computing, Humour | No CommentsI see a lot of funny shit while browsing the Internet, and most is not worth more than a chuckle and a sad shake of the head. But last night, I got me a good old belly laugh out of one particularly lame attempt at “social engineering” to coerce me into… I don’t even know what. I was laughing too hard. If there is an Internet wall of shame for lousy scams, this deserves to be on it. WARNING: Many of the links in this post may point to dangerous websites. Follow them at your own risk.

Is Webster Cook Guilty of Kidnapping, or a Hate Crime?
July 14, 2008 on 1:43 pm | In Atheism & religion, Humour, Philosophy | No CommentsOver the weekend I did a little informal research on the Eucharist, asking every Catholic or former Catholic I could corner about their understanding of it. The results were largely depressing, but I did get quite a bit of insight from one helpful former Catholic. Amazingly enough, despite my tongue-in-cheek critique of the rhetoric of Catholic officials, their claims are valid within the context of their beliefs! Of course, this leads to some rather amusing metaphysical and theological implications, but my immediate concern is for Webster Cook. What crimes did he commit, if any? Does he deserve punishment?

I am Confused About the Webster Cook Case
July 11, 2008 on 3:16 pm | In Atheism & religion, Humour | No CommentsI admit to being just a little clueless about Roman Catholic dogma. I don’t grok the doctrine of the Trinity, and I don’t understand why the Pope dresses like that deliberately. It’s all a foreign mindset to me, but most of the time – unless I am being analytical or critical – I trust that it makes sense to them on some level. Still, sometimes the stuff they say just makes me scratch my head in confusion. Take the latest case, for example, where a University of Central Florida student named Webster Cook stole the Eucharist out of a church ceremony.
Fun with Google in the Luminiferous Æther
July 11, 2008 on 12:18 pm | In Creationism, Humour, Uncategorized | No CommentsWhile I was Googling around to find links for my last post on the motivation behind my blog’s subtitle, “Just another dark star in the luminiferous æther”, I stumbled across a couple of interesting links that I thought I’d share with you. In fact, the experience was so delightful that I may even make this something I do regularly in the future. I shall pick a strange and rarely used phrase – preferably something amusingly quaint – Google it, and see what pops up. If anyone has any suggestions for phrases I might try, I would welcome them enthusiastically (just post a comment!). For now, let’s see what “dark star” and “luminiferous æther” turned up.
